What Is A More Effective Way To Lose Weight? Counting Calories Or Dropping All Wheat Products From Diet?
I have never know anyone to lose any large amounts of weight from counting calories- have you? I notice that people who shove less food in the pie hole and exercise lose the weight!
i’d say dropping wheat from your diet!
Whatever carbs you eat you would have to burn off double what you ate in order to loose anything but with an all protien and nutrient diet youll just be eating energy and nutrients.
I suppose it also depends on your body and how it reacts with carbs.
Counting calories, really does mean shoving less in your pie hole. 1800 a day for a man, 1200 a day for a woman. you will lose weight.
I lost 100lbs this last year from counting calories and working out at the gym. My husband is a celiac and had to stop eating all wheat products and is now 30lbs overweight as a result. Try using Sparkpeople.com. It helps alot and it’s absolutely free.
Shouldn’t this question be in the Nutrition/Food catagory?
All I can say is eat foods with a lot of omega3’s and frink lots of water. Omaga3 is found in fish oil so you can either eat a lot of fish or but fish oil pills at the store. Drink about 8 tall glasses of water each day. But warning, you will have to use the bathroom a lot.
My friend and I made what we called the math diet. I lost 30 lbs and have still kept it off for 4 years. He lost 70 lbs with the same result.
Here’s the gist: 3500 calories = a lb of weight.
Avg person burns 12 calories x body weight at rest
Example 200lb person x 12 = burns 2400 calories at rest
I know these are just averages. There can be other factors but in general it worked for us.
We went to a site called caloriesperhour.com which alllowed us on a spreadsheet to calculate not only our exercise, but also all the mundane things we did.
So, if I consumed 2000 calories yet burned 2100 calories I would lose a pound in 35 days (3500/100).
The key with calorie counting is not to go crazy with it but approach it like a lifestyle change over a long period of time.
When you say I must lose 20 lbs in a month–your approach is wrong. You can do it but it’s not healthy or sustainable.
Also, done right you do begin making food substitutions because you don’t feel like exercising more to handle the candy bar you just ate that didn’t fill you up–though if you really want it you can have it–there’s no magic here.
So, I’m with the calorie counting over the wheat products. It just seems more sustainable to me–but to each his own.
I counted calories, and ate under 700 a day, but still ate a lot of low-cal food everyday. I lost a ton of weight and kept it off…you can do this too. Just try to eat between 700-1000 calories a day. Good Luck!
Isn’t that counting calories? Less food = less calories.
If you TRULY want to lose some serious weight, than go raw. That means only raw foods, nothing cooked. That means no candy, no bread, no meat, and no dairy (pasteurized = cooked). Only raw vegetables and only the less sugary fruits, which excludes berries, melons, and other fruits that are really sweet. Yes, it is a lot of work and determination. But you can lose SO much weight that way in a short time too.
After my son was born, I gained 85 lbs due to a diabetic pregnancy.

There are no get thin quick cures or Oprah would have bought it.
What works:
1- reduce milk fat intake: eg: from whole milk, reduce to 2% for a week, then 1%, try skim if no like, return to 1%
2-don’t eat bread unless something is on it, like a sandwich. don’t eat a bun just for the sake of it. cut down on carbs.
3- WATER, water, water 8 glasses a day, buy diet flavor crystals if need be, but hydrate and fill yourself up.
4- buy ALL your favorite fruits and veggies for the 1st month, cut slice and have ready in Ziplock bags for quick munching.
5- NO FRIED FOODS for the 1st month, that grease is no good. Chicken is great grilled in the oven.
6- cut down on red meat, but replace with organs or legumes. ok not everybody likes blood pudding, but cooked all mushed up and taken apart with fried onions and salt, yummy, great for Iron.
TRICKS: pack away all your big plates for 2 months, do it.
all your meals must fit on your bread plate, that is a NORMAL human portion for your meat and sidedish (rice or mashed potatoes), veggies fill up another bread plate
Pasta, rice,
counting is for accountants, loving your body is for life.
PS. give yourself 4 months you will permanently lose at least 20 lbs.
PPS: NO MORE SODA, at the very least diet, but none the 1st month to reduce bloating.
Cut out junk food, fatty foods, and sodas. there’s no need to cut out entrie food groups. That harms more than it’ll help.
Exercise, too.
Do not stop eating wheat, it is good for you…there’s no reason not to eat it. Of course as I’m sure you’ll hear, diet and exercise is the best way to lose weight. Cut your calories…try and eat 3-5 smaller meals each day. Maybe 3 regular meals and 2 snacks. If you work in a building, take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you do all of this, you should lose at least 1-2 lb’s every week. Good luck!
portions and exercise, and drink lots of water, it flushes out toxins that help your body store fats and other impurities in the body
Drop the fats and sugars from your diet…the weight will fall off.
