Yes, the treadmill is a great way to lose weight especially during the winter months when you can't really get outside much. The important thing to remember is change up your exercise routine. If you only run on the treadmill then your body will build up a tolerance for it and you will plateau. About every 4-6 weeks change to another routine, this will keep you body burning fat. You can also do circuit training, this will do that same thing, plus help you to build muscle which will allow you to burn calories more effectively.

Yes, you will be able to lose that extra weight. But you need to remember that a lot will depend on what and how much you eat. The daily diet should include about 2000 calories, so to lose weight you need only about 1500. Keep that in mind. Not to confuse you with all that math/calory stuff, just limit yourself in what you eat, i.e. eliminate your snaks, and don't eat anything past 5p.m. Don't stress yourself with tough diets (vegies only) Just eat less and you should be fine. Don't get frasturated if you don't see any results in a week, give it a month.

I run a fair amount and the time is split between outdoors and a treadmill. There is no doubt in my mind the outdoor running is harder work and better workout. IN fact when I run indoors on a treadmill I always add a second machine or activity.
However a treadmill has it's place. It is a workout and definately better than nothing. If you are diciplined and use it you will succeed in losing weight and gaining fitness.
Now here is my extra thought. Losing weight and maintaining fitness are equal parts mental and physical. They are lifestyle choices, not a short-term fix. You will not be successful longterm by using an extreme diet or buringing out via exercise.
People make losing weight such a hard thing but it is so simple it's silly. With a few exceptions for people with diseases, being overweight simply means you take in more calories than you burn off. It is THAT simple.
So step one is taking a critical look at your eating habits. You don't need to do anything drastic but you need to cut out MOST, not all, of your excess. Don't do Atkins or something else extreme. Eat what you want but cut your portions down. Don't go hungy, but don't overeat, and when you snack make sure most of the time it is a healthy alternative.
Simultaneously, get your fitness levels up. Start slow by walking, taking stairs versus elevators, etc. Your first few pounds will start to drop and as your fitness level increases you can start running.
Sorry I went beyond your question but I see people fail all the time because they think the answer is "a treadmill" or other piece of equipment. Slight changes in your lifestyle, and it is just slight, will bring the succesful you want. But mentally you have to embrace the change as something for life and not longterm.

Running on the treadmill will use less muscles because the terrain is always the same. that's why it is best to change the ramp and intensity while your doing your workout....
Outdoors is allot harder on your joints though but depending on where you run the ground can become unstable so it will make for a more advanced workout.
I think indoor running can be just as good as long as you mix it up a bit and don't do the same routine everyday.
good luck!

I would say, not as much. A treadmill will help you run and may be a good place to start if your out of shape.
What you eat will help you lose weight, check out the glycimic<sp> index. The index basically shows how some foods are turned to fast more easily than others.
Do not think of it as exersice, try riding a bike, walk in a park, trails, push mow your yard rather than riding the lawn mower.
Do productive things, clean your car, house, etc... Kill two birds with one stone.

yes, running on a treadill or any kind exercise will help you to lose weight. if you want to reduce about 1/3 of your current weight, you have to exercise everyday least 1 hour and eat right too.

Running on a treadmill has less resistance than outdoors, but is MUCH gentler on your joints. Most treadmills allow you to adjust incline, which can cause more of a work out. So yes, you can lose the weight on a treadmill...and you can use the treadmill year round, good weather or bad.
